Born in Rotherham, Yorks, England, George received his education at Hornchurch Grammar School and graduated from the University of Wales, Cardiff with a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. He taught at Wye College, University of London upon graduation. Inspired by the leading edge research of Dr. Ray Lemieux, he moved to Canada in 1959 to join the University of Ottawa as a Research Fellow. In 1961, he joined Dr. Abram Hoffer's world-renowned schizophrenia research team at the University of Saskatchewan as Chief Research Scientist. In 1967, he joined the Health Protection Branch, Health & Welfare Canada, where he eventually became the Chief of the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Division and founding Editor of the Journal of Biopharmaceutics & Drug Disposition.

16/02/04 - MCCONNELL - Harold George 'Bus' (aged 85) Husband of almost 62 years to Marion Jean (Lyon). Father of Lee Doddridge (Charlie) of Ottawa and Ron (and partner Nancy) of Cranbrook BC. Grandfather of Jeremy (Sara) of Ottawa. Brother of Alex (Mary) of Maxville ON, Evelyn Towers of Ottawa and Eunice Marleau (Fern) of Toronto. Born in Ottawa and spent most of his working life with the National Research Council, serving in the Canadian Army during WWII at CFB Suffield in the chemical warfare division. He was a founding member of the Ottawa Valley Beagle Club, a respected judge with the Canadian Kennel Club and spent many hours teaching and coaching young and old alike in the sports he loved. One of his favourite pastimes was introducing youngsters to the game of golf at their summer home near Calabogie, Ontario. Donations: Alzheimer’s Society of Canada .
